About the event
ART FOR BREAKFAST with Jane Kunzman!
The workshop will be held over two Saturdays
SaturdayJan 13th 5pm-7pm
Saturday Jan 27th 5pm-7pm
The price for both days is $60
This workshop will launch your art practice and restore your motivation - students will be guided through a sequence of exercises to focus your attention on finding the creative voice that lives within each of us. This workshop introduces the practice of mindfulness into the everyday making of art. Our positive focus is on a playful engagement with simple materials. Bring a blank art journal and any supplies that you are comfortable with; materials that lift your spirit and put you at ease, as simple as a pencil or box of crayons. We will be making art in a variety of mediums, including but not limited to drawing, painting and simple collage. You will leave with a solid start in your art journal and the tools for maintaining your practice. This initial session is intended for anyone curious about the engagement with art. Follow-up sessions are planned, with a series weekly check-ins to be part of a local supportive circle.
Materials Any type of sketchbook or journal will be suitable for this workshop. When choosing what to bring, the most important thing is something that excites you without feeling too precious. You should feel free to grab an old blank notebook, if you happen to like the size and weight of it. If you are going out to purchase something just for this workshop, find something that lights you up but isn’t a big splurge. The goal is to have the freedom to make lots and lots of marks, rather than having the intention to create works of art ready to frame. With that, gather supplies such as favorite pens, pencils, markers, simple paints acrylic or tempera, inks, stamps, maps, collage papers, magazines and adhesives such as tapes & glue sticks. I have also found that children’s art supplies provide a reasonable balance of juicy pigments with an affordable mindset to use them all up without hesitation.
